How Malvern Welcomes uses its funds

We use our funds wisely and carefully. Our dedicated team of volunteers, English teachers and trustees give their support generously   on an unpaid basis. Some of the many ways in which we use donations and funds are:

Transport to medical appointments and hospital

Appointments are often at hospitals outside Malvern which are difficult to reach by public transport. Enabling people to attend medical appointments is a vital part of our work.

Community Sponsorship – resettling families

Malvern Welcomes has resettled some families under a contract with the UK Home Office with the Community Sponsorship scheme. This requires us to furnish and equip a house or flat, transport the family to Malvern and demonstrate evidence of having financial reserves.

Grants towards driving lessons

Learning to drive in the UK is an important step towards gaining employment, especially when living in Malvern from where it is often difficult to reach places by public transport. We offer a partial grant towards driving lessons.

Grants towards school uniforms

For children starting a new school, uniform is an expensive item. We offer a grant towards this so that when a young person attends school they are dressed appropriately and are well-equipped.

Contributions toward citizenship applications

The cost of applying for UK Citizenship is prohibitive. When a family member has reached the stage where they are able to make an application, we offer a contribution towards this.

Administration costs

We keep these to a minimum. Essential administrative costs include the Zoom account, insurance and some professional accounting services.

English learning materials and text books

Teaching English is a vital part of our work in supporting people on their path to independence.
